Cellar door design
We first opened a cellar door in 1993 in a quaint cottage in our Renwick Vineyard. Referred to by the local council as a “garage” it nonetheless provided a serene hideaway for locals and tourists alike for many years.
The cabin provided a pleasant home for Nautilus for several years and was much loved by all. Details such as climbing flagpoles, limbo dancing and Nautilus-branded boxer shorts are best left in the mists of time but the memories are cherished by those involved!
In 2000 however, it was time for a change, and the cellar door moved to its current home at the newly built Nautilus Winery on Rapaura Road.
Today the stunning Nautilus shell sculpture, commissioned to mark the completion of our new state-of-the-art white winery in 2006, has become a local landmark.
It was designed and made by Whanganui artist Dale Hudson and epitomises the meld of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art techniques that are inherent to Nautilus.
Reflecting this, this Nautilus Shell sculpture is pictured on the newly updated range of labels released in 2011.
